McMahon evaluated placement of a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Tedesco Street and Legg’s Hill Road in Marblehead. This intersection is along an arterial roadway and provides a connection to recreational uses to the north, including a YMCA, that are frequently utilized by nearby residents. The study, based on FHWA guidelines, involved traffic data collection, sight distance assessments, and a crash analysis. McMahon recommended installing a crosswalk with a rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) at the intersection. The implementation of the RRFB system will supplement crosswalk warning signs to provide enhanced safety for pedestrians crossing Tedesco Street. Following the study phase, McMahon developed a proposed design which included crosswalks, RRFB, new pedestrian ramps and other amenities. McMahon prepared construction plans, contract documents, and a cost estimate.
