McMahon has been retained by the Town of Falmouth, MA to prepare a transportation master plan for a 2.5 mile section of the Route 28 and Main Street corridor. In conjunction with a proposed water/sewer line replacement project, the town is seeking to coordinate potential transportation infrastructure improvements identified from the transportation master plan. As part of this project, McMahon evaluated existing transportation conditions and safety issues at nine identified intersections and evaluated corridor-wide improvements. In addition, issues related to pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, public transportation options, parking, truck routing and wayfinding signage were addressed during the study. Short and long-term improvements were identified and conceptual designs prepared in accordance with MassDOT’s guidelines for complete streets. A final transportation master plan report was prepared for the town with proposed recommendations for future improvements. Stakeholder coordination and public outreach was employed throughout the project to obtain local input on the recommended improvements.
The American Planning Association – Massachusetts Chapter (APA-MA) and the Massachusetts Association of Planning Directors (MAPD) selected the Falmouth Transportation Master Plan for a strategic award for Comprehensive Planning. This award is for a planning project of high merit selected through criteria based on innovation, quality, transferability, comprehensiveness, and implementation.
